A building becomes so affected by the atmospheres left behind by people that it develops an allergic reaction.Walls suffer rashes, boils and weeping sores - the building is alive but it is sick. A virus moves through its fabric with the vitality of a rogue cancer. Lesions form, intestines burst through formerly stable surfaces and the fireplace vomits copiously.Things are rotten to the core. All that was buried has risen to the surface.Meanwhile the inhabitants continue their banal existence within the disrupted organism of the house. This project developed through a series of physical explorations with different materials that each triggered a further picture or association. In this way the nature of the materials used to build the sets provided the answers to the form and content of the imagery.Central in this process was the development of a variety of excretions reminiscent of both general decay,(fungus, mold, rot), and bodily function, (blood, pus, vomit, excrement, placenta etc).Within the physical qualities of these materials, so familiar and disgusting at the same time, lies the particular ambivalence of the characters as they both deny and assimilate with their environment.
